On Monday I saw a Next Step advisor about doing an NVQ 2 for Children's Care, Learning and Development. She was very encouraging and helpful and Weds morning (today) I have a pre-assessment meeting to see if I can be accepted. As far as I know there is a place for me as long as I start work paid or unpaid in a nursery, playgroup, creche etc for 6 or more hours a week. I have to get a placement within the next 2 weeks so I hope CRB checks don't take long if I find a place.
Tomorrow (it may depend on today) I'm starting to look for a voluntary placement in something like a playgroup. I'm starting with my friend's daughter's one as I know they are looking for volunteers. I have no idea how easy or hard it is to find a voluntary placement in this sort of thing.
Only thing is that the jobcentre told me I have to work voluntarily for a registered charity but if this is even the case for part-time I'll either not tell them or have to lose a bit of my jobseeker's allowance (if I have to tell them).
If I get on the course I need to talk to the jobcentre next week and get my jobseeker's agreement amended so I don't have to look for office work (unless I have to for a fall-back job).
I will keep this topic updated, wish me lots of luck (I really need it!).
